Five scents: Sandalwood, Jasmine, Frankincense, Nag champa and White sage.

Masala means that wood powder, resins, herbs and flowers are blended into a dough that is rolled by hand around a thin bamboo stick. This differs from dipped incense, where a ready-made stick is dipped in fragrance oil.

• Sandalwood: warm, creamy and woody.
• Jasmine: sweet, full and floral.
• Frankincense (olibanum): balsamic and resinous with a note of citrus.
• Nag champa: sweet, floral and softly resinous – a classic Indian scent.
• White sage: herbal, fresh and dry.

Nag champa is a classic Indian fragrance blend with champaca flower and sandalwood, often together with the resin halmaddi. The scent is sweet, floral and softly resinous.

Place the stick in a steady, fireproof holder that catches the ash. Light the tip, gently blow out the flame and let the stick glow. Never leave burning incense unattended, and keep it away from curtains, children and pets.

All smoke gives off particles, and incense can affect indoor air. Air the room afterwards and use the incense in moderation. If you have asthma, fragrance sensitivity or other respiratory problems, scents and smoke can cause discomfort – in that case it is best to refrain or be careful.
